Kalan’s Weekly Weather - Week 5

After a three-week hiatus, we're back with the latest updates from our favourite ski resorts in Australia and New Zealand. The ski season is now in full swing, with fresh snow, thrilling events, and new terrain opening up across the board. Whether you're a seasoned skier or a first-time snowboarder, this week's blog will catch you up on all the excitement and ensure you're ready for your next alpine adventure.

In Australia, our coverage includes Mount Buller, Falls Creek, Mount Hotham, Perisher, and Thredbo. Across the Tasman Sea, in New Zealand, we’re keeping a close eye on conditions at The Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Treble Cone, and Mount Hutt.

Australia

Mount Buller

Mt Buller hosted the UNI GAMES, featuring Giant Slalom, Super G, and slopestyle competitions. The Twilight season on Bourke Street saw plenty of powder, with 22cm of snow falling overnight early in the week and continuing snowfall resulting in the opening of Bonza, Howqua, and Tirol T-Bar. Excitement was high as Family Run and Burnt Hut also became accessible. Celebrations continue with Bordercross set for tomorrow, following a week of successful UNI GAMES events. Falls Creek

Falls Creek received significant snowfall, with 33cm falling in one night and a total of 53cm in one morning. The resort saw the opening of the Eagle Express Chairlift and Monkey Bar Poma. However, the planned fireworks event was canceled due to poor weather. For today, a fresh 2cm of snow fell overnight, with more expected over the weekend. Mount Hotham

Hotham enjoyed 48cm of snowfall over the weekend, with fresh flakes reported throughout the week. The Subaru Australia Junior Rail Jam showcased the talents of young skiers and snowboarders. The Village Chairlift and Summit opened, adding more terrain for visitors. For today, the ski patrol team is working hard to manage newly opened terrain and ensure safety. Thredbo

Thredbo experienced a snowstorm that delivered 59cm, allowing for the opening of the Sponars and Basin T-bars, along with Exhibition. The mountain is now fully operational with all lifts spinning. For today, a surprise snowfall brought 4cm of fresh snow up top, making for a great day on the slopes. Perisher

Perisher saw the interlinking of all four resort areas, allowing skiers to ride all in one day. With 25cm of fresh snow and the opening of Piper and Link T-bars, the resort is bustling with activity. For today the Subaru ACT & Regional NSW Interschools Championships are in action, providing an exciting spectacle. The Remarkables

Despite limited snowfall this month, the main trails and beginner's area at The Remarkables remain in good condition. The resort is gearing up for significant snowfall expected in the coming week. For today, the terrain park features in Sugar Bowl are perfect for progression, with small boxes, rails, and jumps set up for all skill levels. Coronet Peak had limited snowfall but maintained great conditions on its groomed pistes. The resort is looking forward to upcoming events and continued great skiing. For today, a mainly fine day with good conditions on the groomed slopes. Night skiing kicks off the weekend with Volcom Park in the Dark.
