As we enter the fourth week of the ski season, the excitement continues to build across Australia and New Zealand. This week has seen significant developments in weather, skiing conditions, and upcoming events, ensuring that your alpine adventures are filled with fresh powder and thrilling activities.

In Australia, our coverage includes Mount Buller, Falls Creek, Mount Hotham, Perisher, and Thredbo. Across the Tasman Sea, in New Zealand, we’re keeping a close eye on conditions at The Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Treble Cone, and Mount Hutt.

Australia

Mount Buller

Mount Buller has experienced a week of progress with multiple new openings and 3cm of snow in the last 24 hours. The Summit and Koflers T Bar are now operational, adding to the terrain available to skiers and snowboarders. While the man-made snow and Skyline and Bourke St remain solid, recent wet snow showers have contributed a few centimeters to the base, though visibility is low. Eight lifts are open with 10% of the runs available. The terrain park currently features six rails, providing some freestyle action. Falls Creek

Falls Creek has seen 6cm of fresh snow, with more in the forecast. Main Street, Drover’s Dream, and Wombat’s Ramble are open, marking a strong start to the season. The first group lessons kicked off this week, and Burton’s Mystery Series registrations are now live. Despite some rain, the wet snow is setting a good foundation for the season. Four lifts are open with 7% of the runs available. Upcoming Events include Twilight Tuesdays, Night Skiing and Boarding, and the Fireworks Fiesta are all ongoing, and the Board Lounge Throwdown on July 5th. Mount Hotham

Mount Hotham received about 10cm of fresh snow, with more expected over the weekend. The Village Chair is set to spin on Saturday, adding to the already operational Road Runner and Summit, which opened during the week. The Sun Run is open, and the Summit Terrain Park build is underway. It has also been announced that Hotham will host Australia’s first Freeride World Tour events in August, so keep your eyes open for that! Four lifts are operational with 7% of the runs available. Thredbo

Thredbo enjoyed a successful opening of their Alpine Coaster and celebrated their first Family Flare Run & Fireworks night. The resort saw an additional 10cm of snow at higher elevations, providing good cover on Walkabout and Ballroom at Merritts, with High Noon offering solid conditions down to the bottom. Seven lifts are operational with 5% of runs open. Upcoming events include the July Kids Snow Festival, which will run from the 4th to the 21st of July. For more information visit: Thredbo Events

Perisher

Perisher saw 10cm of fresh snow over the past 24 hours, enhancing the snow cover across the open runs. Night skiing and boarding returns on June 29th, offering evening adventures on Front Valley. The latest and greatest gear from Salomon and Atomic Ski is also available for demo at Perisher Valley. Twenty lifts are open with 10% of all runs available. New Zealand

The Remarkables

The Remarkables have been busy preparing for the influx of skiers and boarders during the upcoming school holidays. More 4WD buses have been added, and carpooling with four or more passengers will be prioritised from June 29th to July 21st. Registrations for the Mini Shred on July 13th have opened, and Sugar Bowl and Curvey Basin are now operational. Despite the limited early-season coverage, the grooming team has managed to widen the trails. The Sugar beginner terrain park is open with two box features and five beginner to medium-level rails. Coronet Peak

Coronet Peak hosted Locals Day on June 23rd, offering discounted lift passes and mountain rentals. The resort is optimistic about the forecasted precipitation, hoping for more snow. The grooming team has prepared the M1 for top-to-bottom skiing, and Meadows is in great shape for beginners. The sledding lane next to the Snow Play area is open. Four lifts and two beginner areas are operational. Upcoming events include First Tracks on June 29th from 8-9 am, and Night Skiing and Boarding on July 3rd from 4-9 pm. Cardrona

Cardrona has confirmed that Whitestar is open, adding to Kindy Conveyor, Learner Conveyors, and McDougall’s Chondola. The snow conditions on trail are good (average of 40cm on groomed runs), but narrower than usual, fingers are crossed for more snow. McPark is the only terrain park that is currently open. Treble Cone

Treble Cone is set to open on June 29th with Triple Treat groomed in the Main Basin. Off-piste skiing will be available from Upper Main Street to the Pump House, with hiking access to the Summit. Mount Hutt

Mount Hutt has been active, with new snowmaking efforts and preparations for Matariki Celebrations. The Summit Six lift was recently opened for expert skiers despite challenging conditions. The snowmaking team has successfully established Morning Glory for the first time this season, but off-trail snow cover is thin with many unmarked hazards. Skiers and snowboarders are strongly advised to stay on marked trails and wear helmets. Three lifts and one beginner area are open, with First Tracks from 8-9 am.
