Top 10 Best Places to Eat in Queenstown, New Zealand
One of the best parts of New Zealand is how good the food is. Now, at The Alpine Anthology we are definitely not food connoisseurs or critics, but we do know what food will make a skier and snowboarder smile ear to ear. We were blown away by how good the food in New Zealand is, which I personally feel like is something that isn’t talked about enough! The main town centre is blessed with heaps of options for restaurants, cafe’s, takeaway and bars. There is no such thing as too much food and Queenstown definitley fits into that category. Keep in mind, this post is not at all sponsored by anyone, this is my complete and honest opinion! So, in no particular order, please see below my top 10 best places to eat in Queenstown, New Zealand…..
1. Flame Bar and Grill
📍88 Beach Street, Queenstown 9300, New Zealand
I had booked Flame as one of our first dinner’s in Queenstown, and it blew us away! Inspired by South African cuisine, Flame is extremely unique. Warm and overall a super fun and cosy vibe for a Steakhouse. Some places that serve really good meats can come off as elitist and uncomfortable, but the staff at Flame made us feel so welcome and were extremely personable. For a family of four, absolutely everyone walked away dreaming and raving about this place and how good everything tasted. My Mum and I had gotten the Eye-Fillet steaks with chips on the side (the chips were amazing!) My brother and Dad shared the Steak Board Selection for Two. Safe to say it was more than enough for 2 full grown men.
And it doesn’t stop at the food, the drinks were incredible. My parents went with a simple Gin and Tonic, not only did it taste amazing, but the presentation was superb and fun. I went with my favourite holiday drink, a frozen strawberry daiquiri, which was perfect! Although we only went once, the menu has plenty of option’s for those who are vegetarian or vegan. The staff at Flame are very accomodating to dietary requirements. Amazing food! Amazing service! We will be 100% going back on our next trip to Queenstown. See our photo’s below…

2. Fergburger
📍42 Shotover Street, Queenstown 9300, New Zealand
The famous Fergburger—does it live up to the hype? Absolutely, 100%. As a family, we were eager to see what all the buzz was about, and we were more than pleasantly surprised. The lines are long and the wait can be chilly, but it's undeniably worth it. We attempted the trick of calling ahead but couldn't get through, so my best advice is to brace yourself for the wait—it's worth every minute.
Fergburger's menu truly has something for everyone, accommodating vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets. Despite being incredibly busy, the staff were efficient and exceptionally friendly. Our family’s favorites included The Fergburger with Cheese, The Big Al, The Cockadoodle Oink, The Sweet Bambi, and The Chief Wiggum. And don’t forget to get the chips on the side, the calamari and onion rings are a fun addition as well. Each one was delicious and left us looking forward to our next visit.

Like most people, my family and I are massive fans of Japanese food, so we were super keen to find the best Japanese in Queenstown. Tanoshi have a restaraunt in Frankton as well, however we went to the one in Cow Lane and it was worth every cent. The menu is a delightful fusion of traditional and contemporary Japanese dishes, expertly crafted to please any palate. The intimate setting, combined with a carefully curated sake selection, makes Tanoshi Cow Lane not just a meal, but an unforgettable dining experience that perfectly complements the vibrant energy of Queenstown. A little tip, it is best to get to Tanoshi earlier to secure a table as they don’t take bookings in Cow Lane.
