Kalan’s Weekly Weather 2025 - Week 1

Welcome back to Kalan’s Weekly Weather for the 2025 Southern Hemisphere Winter season! We are so excited to be back and give you a run down of the week and what the coming week is looking like. It may look a little different than last year but it will be just as good, I promise. A bit more concise but easier to read and follow! So tune in for this seasons weekly weather updates! This year we will be covering the conditions in Australia and New Zealand’s main ski resorts to help you plan ahead and get on board!

As always, we will be covering conditions at Perisher, Thredbo, Mount Buller, Falls Creek, and Hotham in Australia, and in New Zealand we will provide updates for Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona, Treble Cone and Mt Hutt!

Australia

Mount Buller

Mount Buller is open and running as of last weekend! They had one of the best starts to the season for a long time. What started off as some man made mountain piles, turned into decent depth and groomed runs. Receiving a massive dump, the resort currently has 29cm of natural depth and 32cm of man made. Currently, 4 runs are open, Bourke Street, Baldy, Skyline and Family Run are open. With 24cm of snow on this weeks forecast, fingers crossed that some more snow helps open up more terrain and maintain the base. See the upcoming forecast from Mountain Watch below:

Falls Creek

Falls Creek got a splendid start to the season also. They were lucky enough to receive 64cm of snow throughout the opening week, and 23cm is on the way the season is looking good so far! Falls currently have 8 lifts running, 13 trails open, all of which are groomed. Greens include, Broadway, Day’s End, Drover’s Dream, Eagle Express to Cloud 9, Mouse Trap, Panorama and Wombat’s Ramble. Blue runs include, Highway 83, Junction, Main Street, Nastar Race Course and Ory’s.

Mount Hotham

Mount Hotham was also treated to a massive dump of snow for opening weekend! The lifties have been busy with the 70cm they received through the storm. They currently have 6 lifts running, 22 total trails open, 17 of which are groomed. Green runs include, Easy Street, QC, Summit Run and Summit Trainer. Blue runs include, Basin, CSIR Trail, Gully Cat Walk, Lower Swindler’s Trail, Playground Trail, Davenport Access, Blue Snake, Lower Imagine, Milky Way, Mother Johnson’s Return. Slalom Gully, Snake Gully, Swindler’s Trail, Lower Sun Run and Sun Run. Black runs include, Blake Snake, Harper’s. And the Big D Terrain Park is groomed and running. With 21cm on the forecast, this will hopefully maintain the depth. See the upcoming forecast from Mountain Watch below:

Thredbo

New South Wales received a health dose of snow for the opening weekend. 9 lifts are currently operating, 7 trails are open for carving, including Beginner Bowl, Friday Flat, Giddy Up, Ballroom, High Noon, Walkabout and the Boost Mobile Terrain Park. With 19cm of snow on the forecast this should be a promising start for Thredbo’s winter season. Looking ahead, forecasts suggest continued cold conditions with additional snowfall expected, further enhancing the snowpack and extending the excellent early-season conditions. Perisher

Perisher experienced a remarkable start to the 2025 snow season this past week, marked by substantial snowfall and ideal skiing conditions. This influx of snow, combined with freezing temperatures, allowed for extensive snowmaking efforts, ensuring well-groomed slopes across the resort. With 20cm of snow on the way, a fresh top can be looked forward to. 14 lifts are operational, 17 trails are open, 16 of which are groomed. You can currently carve up, Bullwheel Run, Escapade, Front Valley. Goats Gully, Leichhardt Loop, Snowy Trails, Tom Thumb, Yabby Flats, The Cleft, Milk Run, Dorfer, Lindner, Back Wood Run and more! New Zealand

Coronet Peak

Coronet Peak experienced a promising lead-up to its official winter opening on Saturday, June 14, 2025. In the week prior, the resort received approximately 7 cm of fresh snow between June 6 and June 7, contributing to a snow base of 60 cm at the lower elevations and 120 cm at the upper elevations by June 10. While the resort remained closed during this period, staff utilized the time to prepare the slopes, with machinery and personnel actively working on the hill. The weather conditions were favorable, featuring cold temperatures and light snowfall, which aided in snow preservation and grooming efforts. 7 lifts are running, with 80% of runs open. The Remarkables

The Remarkables ski area experienced a dynamic week leading up to its official opening on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The weather remained mostly dry, with temperatures staying below freezing, which helped preserve the snowpack. Looking ahead, light snowfall is forecasted for June 20 and more significant snow is expected around June 23. However all lifts are fully operational and 90% of runs are currently open. Cardrona

It’s been an exciting week up at Cardrona Alpine Resort as anticipation builds for the official season opening on Saturday, June 14. Mother Nature has delivered a promising pre-season treat, with fresh snowfalls gracing the slopes. While the base depth is still developing cold temperatures have allowed for consistent snowmaking, giving the snowpack a healthy head start. Winter lovers can start dusting off their skis and boards with confidence as Cardrona is shaping up beautifully, and all signs point to a snowy and sensational start to the 2025 season. Treble Cone

As the 2025 ski season approaches, Treble Cone has been laying a solid foundation for winter enthusiasts. The resort received a significant snowfall of 44 cm on June 12, contributing to a snow base of 60 cm at the lower elevations and 120 cm at the upper elevations by June 13. While the resort remains closed, with an official opening date set for June 28, the recent weather patterns suggest a promising start to the season . Skiers and snowboarders can look forward to well-prepared slopes and favorable conditions as Treble Cone gears up for another exciting winter. Mount Hutt

Mt Hutt has kicked off the 2025 ski season with exceptional conditions, thanks to a significant snowfall of over 90 cm from an early June polar blast. This substantial accumulation has established a solid snow base of 121 cm, providing an excellent foundation for winter sports enthusiasts. The resort officially opened on Friday, June 13, offering skiers and snowboarders pristine slopes and favorable weather conditions. With temperatures remaining below freezing and additional snowfalls anticipated, Mt Hutt is poised for a remarkable season ahead. Visitors can look forward to well-groomed trails and a vibrant alpine atmosphere as the resort continues to welcome guests throughout the winter months.
